He was an Enchanter at Kinloch Hold, and so can be Kevin Bacon-ed with various characters who have connections to the Circle Tower. He fought in the Battle of Denerim (no, he doesn't know Cousland, thanks for asking). He was mainly in Antiva for the couple of years before he joined the Inquisition (hit me up OOC for specifics).

He was part of the team of mages who went to Skyhold to negotiate the destruction of recovered phylacteries. Longtime head of Project Sashamiri before the projects got folded back into the divisions. Lives with Petrana de Cedoux and Marcus Rowntree.
